Taxi drivers confirm general strike Wednesday

Planned deregulation favours multinationals say protesters

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 23 - Italy's taxi drivers on Tuesday confirmed a general strike for Wednesday, November 24, saying the government's new competition bill introduces deregulation favouring multinationals against small independent drivers.
The protest will culminate in a march in Rome featuring drivers from all over Italy.
Taxis at Rome's Termini rail station will bear a QR code explaining the reasons for the action.
All taxis will have a leaflet attached inside saying "I'm striking because I'm defending my job against those who would like to destroy a public service, 40,000 companies and 40,000 families".
Taxi drivers have taken action against sector deregulation plans on several occasions in the past few years. (ANSA).
